Globe At Home new prepaid and postpaid offers change the game for

    home broadband

The home broadband landscape in the Philippines shows that 87% of households still has no access to an Internet connection.  Coupled with the increasing line of streaming content, which is now more accessible and affordable, Globe At Home knows there is tremendous opportunity to disrupt the home broadband business.

Putting fresh investments into fixed wireline connectivity, Globe aims to capture the home by giving Filipinos more affordable data, exclusive content, as well as innovative services – all for a seamless experience for the whole family.

“The time is ripe to disrupt the market and break the barriers of getting a broadband plan through accessibility and ease of application. We are committed to provide fast and reliable home connectivity to more Filipinos, nationwide,” says Globe At Home Senior Vice President, Martha Sazon.

Globe At Home introduces its latest innovative offers for its prepaid and postpaid customers that will change the way families watch, listen, play, share, and learn!

Today, customers no longer need to worry about committing to a lock-up period to get a postpaid broadband plan. Globe At Home introduces no lock up-plans that can be availed without the usual 24-month contract.

Customers can avail of any Fiber or DSL lines with speeds of up to 50 Mbps for only P499 for the first 3 months. Customers can try their chosen plans in their homes without lock up or commitment. It comes with free installation and requires no documents other than one (1) valid ID for processing. Customers just need to pay a one-time modem fee.

After the three-month trial, customers can choose to maintain their initially selected plan or choose another. Available plans are Plan 1299 for 5 Mbps and 400GB of data; Plan 1599 for 10 Mbps and 500 GB of data and Plan 1899 for 50 Mbps and 600 GB of data.

Those who prefer to discontinue their subscription within the first 15 days will get a 100% refund of their modem fee upon the return of all devices installed in their home.

Complementing this is the introduction of the Globe At Home Tech Squad. They are a team of experts best equipped to assist customers in setting up a connected home. They will provide end-to-end support from installation to troubleshooting to enhancing the broadband experience to maximize one’s Globe At Home connection.

Leveraging on the strength of our mobile expertise, back in February we launched the Globe At Home Prepaid WIFI to connect more Filipino families. It is easy to install and has 50% stronger WIFI coverage versus myfi. Best of all there is no need to commit to a fixed monthly rate so one can better control their budget.

Aside from it being extremely convenient, it is also easy on your pocket. Globe At Home introduces the most affordable 1GB data promo ever at just P15 with HomeSURF. Users can enjoy this offer on top of their existing GoSURF50 subscription. Heavier data users can also enjoy bigger data allocations, like 10GB of data for P349 valid for 10 days, and an extra 15GB of data for P599 valid for 30 days. It is exclusively available through the Globe At Home App.

This app will help users load credits charged to any Globe mobile number, track total data usage consumed by those who connected to the device, as well as boost data allocation through easy registration to promos. The app notifies users once their data allocation has been consumed. It is easy to set-up just by entering the Prepaid Home WIFI number and preferred PIN.

It will be available for download on the Google Playstore and the App Store by October 15.

Since the expansion of its footprint and the deployment of leading edge network technology, the Akamai State of the Internet Connectivity Report revealed that the first quarter of 2017 showed that the Philippines experienced significant improvements in broadband speed and adoption. The country’s average fixed broadband speed increased by 5Mbps or 57% year on year, while the country registered the strongest growth in terms of adoption in Asia Pacific with a 111% growth year on year.

With all these innovations in place, the vision of Globe at Home to connect two million homes by 2020 through high-speed internet and provide affordable world-class entertainment, is well on its way to become a reality.

Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino – if you don’t know what this is, you better check your local cinema to find out. But, in a nutshell, it’s a celebration of Filipino Films. Based on a Facebook post by Mell T. Navaro, “the Film Development Council of the Philippine (FDCP) is partnering with commercial theaters to exclusively screen Filipino films nationwide on August 16-22, 2017 dubbed as PISTA NG PELIKULANG PILIPINO 2017 (Year 1).” You can read the full article here.

    A Delight to Filipino Cinemaphiles

As a cinemaphile in my own right, all I have to say is it’s about time. I have always enjoyed foreign movies but I’ve also always had this hankering for good films by my countrymen (Pinoy slapstick comedies are entertaining but they are not in my list of good films, FYI). There’s plenty out there, of course, like Bliss, the entire 2016 Manila Film Festival line up, and so much more. My problem is that award-worthy films like these aren’t shown often enough. This is why I am ecstatic that we are now having the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (only until August 22).

GoWiFi introduces 3-day Free Trial of GoWiFi Auto
    Posted in: Services

Globe GoWiFi, the public WiFi hotspot service of Globe Telecom, is pleased to announce a milestone in the deployment of its network – surpassing 10,000 access points in major malls, coffee chains, convenience stores, transport hubs, schools, hospitals, and many other locations across the country.

The popular Free GoWiFi service provides users with free internet minutes daily to browse social media, check e-mails, watch videos, and download files at high speed.

‘Surf All Day’ with the New GoWiFi Auto

GoWiFI introduces GoWiFi Auto, an affordable paid service for customers to continue browsing once their daily allowance of free WiFi minutes is fully consumed. Beyond just extending WiFi access time, GoWiFi Auto allows customers who have purchased a package to automatically connect to the GoWiFi Auto network without having to login again even when transferring between multiple locations. Customers can enjoy fast uninterrupted browsing, no ads, no timeouts, and no need to remember username and passwords.

To enjoy GoWiFi Auto, customers simply connect to the @GoWiFi_Auto network, wait for the GoWiFi Auto portal to pop up (or open the browser) and sign up with a mobile number. GoWiFi Auto’s affordable plans start at P15/day for 500MB. Larger plans, specifically a P50 plan offering 1.5GB of data for 3 days and a P99 plan, also with 1.5 GB of data, but valid for 30 days, are also available.

As a special treat, GoWiFi is offering a trial promo which entitles new users free access to GoWiFi Auto for a period of 3 days from the moment of successful activation. The Free 3 Day Trial promo runs until August 31, 2017.

In line with Globe’s aspiration to make high quality internet access available to all, GoWiFi Auto is open to customers of any local mobile network provider.

“The GoWiFi network allows us to provide everyone with dependable connectivity even when they are on-the-go. We continue to connect more establishments with Globe GoWiFi, prioritizing key areas such as malls, hospitals, schools, government offices and transportation facilities. GoWiFi is built on carrier class secure infrastructure, available to all users regardless of network provider, and is compatible with any WiFi-enabled device.  Globe looks forward to the continued expansion of this important new internet access network”, says Globe Chief Commercial Officer, Albert de Larrazabal.

    Globe GoWiFi Continues Growth

As of July, Globe GoWiFi is available in over 100 malls where customers can experience better browsing as they shop and dine. Since launching in 2015, GoWiFi has seen an unprecedented growth rate to more than 10 million user sessions per month and usage of over 50 terabytes of data per day.

Just last June, GoWiFi was a participant of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) effort for the launch of the EDSA WiFi project, providing high-speed internet connectivity throughout the 24-kilometer stretch of EDSA.

This adds to GoWiFi’s presence in over a thousand locations nationwide which covers most major malls such as Ayala Malls, SM Malls, Megaworld Lifestyle Malls, Robinsons Malls, and Gaisano Malls. The service is also progressively being implemented in convenience stores like 7-Eleven, Ministop, Family Mart, and AlfaMart; coffee chains like Starbucks, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Seattle’s Best Coffee, and UCC; and restaurants like KFC, Burger King, Kenny Rogers Roasters, and Wendy’s.

It is also available in major transportation hubs such as the Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3), select stations of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system; key airports around the country such as those in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao as well as in top tourist destinations like Boracay and Lio, El Nido, Palawan; hospitals such as St. Luke’s Medical Center, The Medical City, Davao Doctors Hospital, Cardinal Santos Hospital, and Philippine General Hospital; local government units in Makati, Quezon City, Valenzuela, Las Piñas, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Caloocan, and Batangas; and some of the schools and universities like Far Eastern University and Bulacan State University.

To sustain the momentum of providing reliable WiFi connectivity around the Philippines, Globe continues to expand Globe GoWiFi services by covering more sites with its premium WiFi connection nationwide, giving its customers a better internet experience outside their homes and offices. In line with its vision of providing connectivity to 2 million homes in 2020, Globe At Home has started its aggressive rollout of facilities in major locations around the country. The province of Cebu is one of its key locations and Globe is working hand-in-hand with the Cebu City and Mandaue City governments for its various builds.

Globe is strengthening its partnership with the local government units, recognizing that local officials’ support is essential in realizing its goal of enhancing connectivity to boost economic development in the country.

Globe At Home officially launched its new GoBIG Plans in Cebu through the first ever #StreamFest where families were invited to spend an afternoon watching their favorite movies and doing fun activities at Ayala Center Cebu.

To improve its mobile services in Cebu, Globe continues to ramp up the deployment of LTE sites using the 700 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2600 MHz bands. Since the company gained access to new spectrum assets in the middle of last year, close to 600 LTE sites have already been activated in Cebu alone.

LGU collaborations also pave the way for broadband connectivity to reach more homes, which is realized in Globe At Home’s Cebu launch of its new GoBIG plans that have bigger data allocations at affordable rates and fast, reliable speeds. These new plans come with free 100 GB of data to access and enjoy YouTube.

Together with improving connectivity at home, Globe At Home has also lent its support to the company’s sustainability initiatives specifically programs that deliver quality education in the public education sector. Globe has rolled-out 2 key programs with the Department of Education to maximize new technologies in enabling world-class quality education in the Philippines.

Globe At Home Head of Marketing Barbie Dapul talks about the new GoBIG plans that comes with an additional free 100GB of data just to access more videos on YouTube

In Mandaue City, Globe launched its Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP), which is its cyberwellness advocacy that addresses the online health and safety of Visayan youth. Globe launched the workshop in Mandaue City Science High School to increase students’ knowledge of digital citizenship and cyber safety by helping them develop insights into the influences of the online world and the choices they are making.

In Cebu City, Globe then brought its Global Filipino Schools (GFS) program at the Cebu City National Science High School (CCNSHS). The GFS program provides select public schools with infrastructure support and ICT equipment such as the Globe Digital Learning Lab – a mobile cart of ICT gadgets composed of netbooks, tablets, and projectors powered with superior internet connectivity.  The Lab can be used to teach different subject matters whether inside or outside the classroom to encourage creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking.

Globe At Home #StreamFest was open to all Cebuanos the whole weekend of July 1 and 2 where customers got to watch free movies from HOOQ, original series from NETFLIX and participate in fun family activities from top Cebuano YouTube creators Chinkytita and WhatoPlay.

At CCNSHS, with 38 teachers and 1,004 students, Globe turned over 20 tablets with mirroring capability for projectors and LCD screens, two projector kits with projector screen, 10 Globe Prepaid Supersticks, one mobile cart which also serves as a charging station, and free 10 mbps internet line.  CCNSHS is the 10th school in Cebu province that benefitted from the GFS program that now covers 142 schools all over the country.

At present, many public schools are still missing out on the benefits of ICT, prompting Globe to help address the concern through GFS.  The program, which started in 2012, intends to transform at least one school in each of the 221 school divisions under the Department of Education into centers of ICT excellence within the next four years.

With more homes and schools getting connected, Globe At Home will continue its expansion to reach more locations in Cebu and the rest of the country.

  • Global Filipino School Program by Globe Telecom | Mea in Bacolod
21st Century Learning and Cyberwellness Training via Globe’s Global Filipino School Program
    Posted in: Events

With today’s technologically advanced generation, it’s high time for our schools to be equipped with training and lessons that are of the 21st century. Traditional education, in my opinion, is still effective to some degree, but we have to crank it up a little higher to cover topics like social media etiquette, cyberbullying and everything under the cyberwellness umbrella. That’s why I was glad when I was invited to attend Globe‘s event for their Global Filipino School program (GFS program) in Cebu City National Science High School (CCNSHS).

Miguel Bermundo | Pillar Leader for Education Speaking About the Mobile ICT Cart | Mea in Bacolod

Globe Telecom Citizen Divison Manager Miguel

What is the Global Filipino School Program?

The Global Filipino School program provides select public schools with infrastructure support and ICT equipment such as the Globe Digital Learning Lab – a mobile cart of ICT gadgets composed of netbooks, tablets, and projectors powered with superior internet connectivity. The Lab can be used to teach different subject matters whether inside or outside the classroom to encourage creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking.

The program also has a teacher training component to empower the teachers with skills to seamlessly use ICT tools in their subject expertise. In turn, the schools under the GFS Program serve as a teacher training hub for the Department of Education and are responsible for carrying out teacher training to neighboring schools.

For CCNSHS, the school we visited during our trip, it has 38 teachers and 1,004 students. Globe turned over:

    • 20 tablets with mirroring capability for projectors and LCD screens
    • 2 projector kits with projector screen
    • 10 Globe Prepaid Supersticks
    • 1 mobile cart which also serves as a charging station
    • And, free 10mbps internet connection

CCNSHS is the 10th school in Cebu province which benefitted from the GFS program which now covers 142 schools all over the country. The program, which started in 2012, intends to transform at least one school in each of the 221 school divisions under the Department of Education into centers of ICT excellence within the next four years. I can’t wait for this program to reach Visayas.

What is the impact of the Global Filipino School Program on students?

A Student of Cebu City National Science High School Sharing the Effects of Global Filipino School Program

Arianwen Rollan, student of Cebu City National Science High School (CCNSHS), sharing how the program has improved their learning.

We had the chance to ask one of Cebu City National Science High School’s students to find out whether the program is actually making an impact or not. As expected, the students are responding well according to this young lady. She accounts that she is learning about how to use social media responsibly and how technology can improve lives. Her horizon and perspective broadened because of what she is learning.

I asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up. She replied that she wanted to be a doctor but might just change her mind because of all the new possibilities that she was introduced to by the lessons she learned from the Global Filipino School program.

    ICT Coordinator Training

Meanwhile, Globe held a Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) training for 44 ICT coordinators of Mandaue City School Division held at the Mandaue City Science High School. The coordinators, representing 42 public elementary and schools in Mandaue City, will in turn conduct DTP workshops for students in their respective schools. Through DTP, the students will learn about the responsible use of technology, be it through gadgets, website browsing, or social media platforms that will allow them to avoid social media mistakes and becoming victims of cyberbullying and cybercrimes.

Words from Globe’s Senior VP for Corporate Communications

“Quality education goes hand-in- hand with ICT which allows learning to take place not only within the classroom but even beyond it. Mobile internet adoption and the availability of affordable data-capable gadgets make it easier now for both students and teachers to access a vast library of information previously out of their reach. We believe that by providing the teachers and students with the tools they need, we can help uplift the state of Philippine education one classroom at a time,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications.

“Being a company which focuses on technology and digital lifestyle, Globe also wants to equip its customers with the knowledge and tools to protect themselves online. Through our #MakeITSafe campaign, we are tapping DTP to help guide them in making safe and responsible choices in their online activities,” Crisanto adds.

    Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) Training

DTP offers three exciting modules for students. Each module is designed to increase students’ knowledge of digital citizenship and cyber safety by taking a critical look at their online behavior and helping them develop insights into the influences of the online world and the choices they are making.

The Digital Insight workshop provides activities to help students discern proper online behavior, Digital Impact tackles issues on technology’s impact on students’ social activities, while Digital Ambition equips them with skills on how to use technology to achieve life goals.

L-R: CCNHS teacher Rex Ebarle, Cebu City Division Assistant SDS Dr. Danillo Gudelosao, CCNHS Principal Evelyn Pielago, Globe Telecom Citizen Divison Manager Miguel Bermundo, Globe Telecom Broadband Marketing Head Barbie Dapul. DepEd Region VII Regional Director Dr. Juliet Jureta, and Globe Telecom Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications Yoly Crisostomo

These are the kinds of programs that parents look forward to. We might be able to teach our children at home but lessons on cyberwellness and other topics about technology will be more effective in a school setting. Like I said, it is 2017 and it is about time that someone spearheads this kind of program for the next generation.

  • HOOQ: 10 Old Movies to Re-Watch with HOOQ this Halloween
    Posted in: Entertainment

Movies – I used to watch them 3-5 times a day. At the rate I was going, I should have made my own blog for movie reviews. It was ridiculous, but luckily my binge is over. I have my ways of watching certain movies without going to the theatre but it would have been better if I had known the existence of HOOQ.

    What is HOOQ?

Jessy and Xian for HOOQ copy

HOOQ is an app that lets you enjoy movies through your phone, tablet or laptop. It has over 10,000 movies and TV series. All you have to do is sign up, download the app, get the popcorn going while the app is downloading, dim the lights and you’re good to go.

How to Sign Up for HOOQ + BenefitsHooq 3

You can either sign up or log in at HOOQ’s main website. If you opt for the FREE trial, the website will require you to input your credit cards details or it will charge the monthly subscription amount to your Globe Telecom number. The way it works is this: you can avail of the free trial if you sign up for HOOQ on a monthly basis. The amount that you’re going to pay per month is only P149 anyway. It can be free with Tattoo broadband plans, fyi.

It’s a good deal if you always go on a movie binge. Plus, you get to see TV series like Gotham, My Husband’s Lover (pinoy), Grey’s Anatomy (personal fave), and even Little Lulu (remember the cartoon you used to watch as a kid?). There’s so much more and it would take me almost a week to list down every movie and TV series HOOQ has. Instead of listing everything down, here’s a better list that I can do:

Mea’s List of 10 HOOQ Horror/Thriller Movies to Watch this Halloween

The list contains old movies. “Old” is a very subjective word but let’s just say that they are old to me. As mentioned, they are from the Horror/Thriller genres so enjoy. Muhahahahaha! #evillaugh

    1. Interview with a Vampire

    Interview with a Vampire

Ok, so this is not that scary but who can resist Brad Pitt in this movie? This was also the first movie I’ve watched that made me want to be a vampire and be with Louie forever and ever. You’ll definitely feel old once you see how young Kirsten Dunst was in this film.

Mea’s trivia: Tom Cruise’s name in the movie was Lestat. He’s the same vampire in the movie Queen of the Damned, one of my ultimate BFF movies.

    2. The Witches of Eastwick

    Witches of Eastwick

I know! This isn’t scary at all either. Believe me, I will get to the scary bits later. You can classify this one as a comedy with a dash of witchcraft. See how amazing Cher looks in this movie! The three women on the poster are totally not related but, in the end, they get a great big mansion and a butler to boot. How? You’d have to watch it for yourself.

    3. Beetle Juice

When I was younger, my dad would rent tapes of Beetle Juice cartoon episodes for me to watch. I have this faint memory of myself watching the movie version when I was around 4 years old. This is the last non-scary one, I promise, but I just had to put this in here because it’s my childhood. I even wanted to change my name to Lydia after watching the movie version as a kid.

    4. The Lost Boys

    The Lost Boys

This may not be scary to me now but when I was a pre-teen, this movie gave me nightmares. Ladies and gents, this was before vampires were supposed to be good looking, sparkly and classy entities, suitable to be the boyfriend of an ordinary girl from a small town. Nope, the vampires in this movie aren’t boyfriend material.

    5. Hell Raiser

This movie was released in 2000. I watched this when I was a teen and all I can say is that it’s scary and creepy. In fact, all Hellraiser movies are downright scary, creepy and disturbing. With this one, waking up in Hell is never a good way to start your day.

    6. Fright Night

    Fright Night

I saw this movie in my teen years. I’ve already seen the new version but the older one, this one, is definitely better. The vampires in the old movies area really ghoulish looking – yellow eyes, huge mouth, long fangs. Have you noticed?

    7. I Know What You Did Last Summer

This movie is more of a thriller, as you may have already known. I used to love Jennifer Love Hewitt and Brandy. They were the reasons why I watched this movie back then. Am I a total 90’s kid or what?

    8. The Bone Collector

    The Bone Collector

Yes, we’re moving on to the thriller category of the list. The Bone Collector is simply a brilliant film with brilliant actors and actresses. It’s a crime movie (I don’t watch these kinds of movies often) but the storyline is very original and unique.

    9. The Sixth Sense

    The Sixth Sense

Is this a classic or is this a classic? There are a lot of famous lines adapted from this movie. It’s scary, thrilling and disturbing – all three you can feel during the first few minutes of the movie’s beginning. Watch for yourself and, maybe, by the end, you can also see dead people. Hala mo!

    10. Idle Hands

    Idle Hands

To top off my list is Idle Hands. This one is another ultimate BFF movie for me and best friend. We both watched this when we were in high school. And, although it may not be that scary, it touches on typical teen issues that still exist to this day – weed, girls, high school, laziness and so on. I, and my best friend, also learned a very valuable lesson from this movie: idle hands are the devil’s playground. Also, it doesn’t hurt that Devon Sawa’s in the movie (crush!) and the soundtrack includes Rob Zombie’s Dragula (we went apeshit over this song when I was younger).

That’s it for my list ladies and gents. I’ll be posting more movie recommendations soon but for now, start with these 10 for Halloween. Download HOOQ now and watch as many movies and TV series as you want for only P149/month.
