A Freelancer’s Bestfriend: PayPal to GCash FREE
    Posted in: Featured, Services

One of the most daunting things about being a freelancer is transferring money from one account to another. Commonly, those who have the same line of work as I do transact via PayPal. Whenever we finish our task, our clients pay through PayPal. Typically, this platform doesn’t have a withdrawal fee when one withdraws larger amounts. However, if you just want to withdraw a tiny piece of your hard earned cash, you’d have to pay a transfer fee. Well, we can say goodbye to those fees because transferring money from Paypal to GCash FREE.

How To Transfer From Paypal To GCash

    • Link your Paypal account to your GCash.
    • When everything is linked, you can easily transfer your Paypal credits within 24hours.

Other Than PayPal to GCash FREE Transactions, You Can Also:

    • Send money for FREE from one GCash user to another GCash user.
    • Receive money for FREE from another GCash user.
    • Withdraw money for FREE via ATMs twice per month. Withdrawable amount dependent on ATM’s maximum withdrawable amount per transaction.
    • Withdraw money for FREE via over-the-counter, multiple transactions, but up to P20,000 per transaction only.

    Why I Love Using GCash

Aside from the obvious advantage of PayPal to GCash free transactions, I can also pay Utilities through GCash. You can pay the following bills:

    • BDO Credit Card
    • Globe at Home and Postpaid
    • Loans (Home Credit, AsiaLink, and so much more)
    • Pag-ibig (Yes, GCash accepts fees for some Government offices)
    • Grab
    • Manulife

All of these I mentioned, because these bills are what I pay for every month. I can also easily pay for groceries from PureGold and Robinsons Place Bacolod. There are plenty of things that GCash can be useful for.

GCash Is Just A Download Away

You absolutely have to try out withdrawing from your Paypal account to your GCash account. Pay your bills without lining up to any counter or simply withdraw your funds straight to your bank account. You don’t even have to worry about fees anymore. If you don’t have GCash in your phones yet, you can click on the links below:

  • How To Live Brighter As A SunLife Advisor - Mea in Bacolod
How To Live Brighter As A SunLife Advisor
    Posted in: Services

It’s a bit disappointing to say that not all Filipinos see the value in insurance and investments. Heck, based on a survey by done Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ earlier this year, 86% of us don’t even have a deposit account in the bank. It’s surprising, I know. How would one expect to live brighter without knowing how to save and invest properly?

SunLife Advisor: Live Brighter And Make Others’ Lives Brighter Too

The answer to this problem, in my opinion, is education. We need to educate ourselves on how to invest in our future or our children’s future. To do this, we can attend seminars, or read books and blogs about financial literacy. We can also consider learning from financial advisors from the best financial service companies, like SunLife Financial.

    How Can SunLife Advisors Help?

Last July 21, 2018, I attended the #LiveBrighter Forum by SunLife. It was through this event that I learned more about being a SunLife Advisor. The way I saw it was that advisors don’t just tell you the value of investing to make a sale. They can walk the talk, taking on investments of their own to live a brighter life.
After the forum, I was able to talk to different team leaders to pick their minds about their experience of being SunLife’s partner (the company refers to their advisors as partners). Aside from the freedom they experienced because they owned their time, advisors highlighted the importance of reaching out to people and developing a professional relationship. It’s not just about closing a sale, but it’s more of guiding clients and potential ones towards the right perspective in terms of where to put their money.

    Do SunLife Advisors Live Brighter?

One of the youngest advisors, Malou Perez, was able to travel around the world. Another advisor, a wife and a mother, was able to bring her daughter to vacations around the Philippines. Despite the obvious benefits, the advisors I talked to mentioned that they live brighter because they are helping people. They help those who want to be prepared for the future. They give advice to those who want to know more about making financially wise choices. It is in this way that they are making a difference.

    Why Did They Choose SunLife?

Before we go any further, it’s important to know that SunLife is a company that is well-established. They don’t hang out near banks inside malls and offer life insurances to those who pass by. They do not ask for your credit card number and offer you free trips to a luxurious, tropical destination. No!

    • SunLife is a global company.
    • SunLife’s roots trace back to Canada, where it was founded more than 150 years ago.
    • It has survived and thrived during different economic struggles.
    • It employs humanitarian ideals when reaching out to people.

I, myself, have an account with SunLife and I can say that it is one of the best companies you can entrust with your hard earned money. It is also a company you can be proud to say that you are a part of. If you want to know more about SunLife, visit their About Page. Click on the link below:

Whether you’d like to be an advisor or just invest your money, it’s time for you to become financially literate. Saving your money in the bank is good, but it would be better if you have your savings, plus a plan that for your retirement or for your children’s education. Be smart about which “basket” you put your “eggs” in.

Bobs Restaurant Bacolod: First Homegrown Favorite To Go Cashless
Posted in: Services, Where and What to Eat

Did you know that Bob’s Restaurant Bacolod is one of the pioneers in the City of Smiles restaurant scene? It’s been in operation since 1965. Through the years, it has been the go-to place for family meals and desserts with its affordable American and Filipino menu. Despite its age, Bob’s Restaurant Bacolod continues to innovate with the changing times by being the first homegrown favorite to go cashless with GCash.

Pay For That Bob’s Resturant Bacolod Burger With Your GCash Credits

When I was younger, I remember spending several family dinners and birthday celebrations at Bob’s. Whenever we ate there, my mom would point out the waiters that also served her meals when she was still a working girl. I and my sister also loved looking at the old menu printed on the paper placemat. Our minds were blown with the P1.00 prices for sandwiches.

Bobs Restuarant Bacolod - Now Accepting Gcash | Mea in Bacolod

Indeed, Bob’s Restaurant Bacolod has come a long way. What’s great about this place is that it doesn’t live in the past. It has upgraded its practices, menu and even infrastructure throughout its existence. Recently, it has made another milestone by embracing the GCash system for cashless transactions.

    What is GCash?

L-R: Ernest L. Cu, Bobby Magalona

GCash is a mobile money service which can be used to pay for goods and services without the need for cash. It functions similarly to a debit card, but it’s merely in app form. It can be downloaded on both iTunes and the Google PlayStore.

A user would have to put credits into it. Once loaded, users can pay for purchases by sending GCash credits as payment.

How To Use GCash at Bob’s Restaurant Bacolod

When you’ve already set up and loaded your GCash account, all you have to do is scan Bob’s Restaurant’s QR Code and then pay for the meal that you ordered with your credits. You can also get your very own GCash card which you can connect to your digital account. You may swipe the card with establishments that accept MasterCard.

    Bob’s Restaurant Favorites

Going cashless with GCash makes transactions more convenient for both consumers and servers. Going back and forth for the bill, payment, and change is dealt away with. No more loose change in the pocket too! So, when you are already a GCash user, make sure that your app or card is ready when you visit Bob’s Restaurant Bacolod as well as 12,000 partner outlets nationwide.

    Posted in: Services

Globe GoWiFi, the public WiFi hotspot service of Globe Telecom, is pleased to announce a milestone in the deployment of its network – surpassing 10,000 access points in major malls, coffee chains, convenience stores, transport hubs, schools, hospitals, and many other locations across the country.

The popular Free GoWiFi service provides users with free internet minutes daily to browse social media, check e-mails, watch videos, and download files at high speed.

‘Surf All Day’ with the New GoWiFi Auto

GoWiFI introduces GoWiFi Auto, an affordable paid service for customers to continue browsing once their daily allowance of free WiFi minutes is fully consumed. Beyond just extending WiFi access time, GoWiFi Auto allows customers who have purchased a package to automatically connect to the GoWiFi Auto network without having to login again even when transferring between multiple locations. Customers can enjoy fast uninterrupted browsing, no ads, no timeouts, and no need to remember username and passwords.

To enjoy GoWiFi Auto, customers simply connect to the @GoWiFi_Auto network, wait for the GoWiFi Auto portal to pop up (or open the browser) and sign up with a mobile number. GoWiFi Auto’s affordable plans start at P15/day for 500MB. Larger plans, specifically a P50 plan offering 1.5GB of data for 3 days and a P99 plan, also with 1.5 GB of data, but valid for 30 days, are also available.

    Globe GoWiFi Continues Growth

As of July, Globe GoWiFi is available in over 100 malls where customers can experience better browsing as they shop and dine. Since launching in 2015, GoWiFi has seen an unprecedented growth rate to more than 10 million user sessions per month and usage of over 50 terabytes of data per day.

Just last June, GoWiFi was a participant of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) effort for the launch of the EDSA WiFi project, providing high-speed internet connectivity throughout the 24-kilometer stretch of EDSA.

This adds to GoWiFi’s presence in over a thousand locations nationwide which covers most major malls such as Ayala Malls, SM Malls, Megaworld Lifestyle Malls, Robinsons Malls, and Gaisano Malls. The service is also progressively being implemented in convenience stores like 7-Eleven, Ministop, Family Mart, and AlfaMart; coffee chains like Starbucks, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Seattle’s Best Coffee, and UCC; and restaurants like KFC, Burger King, Kenny Rogers Roasters, and Wendy’s.

It is also available in major transportation hubs such as the Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3), select stations of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system; key airports around the country such as those in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao as well as in top tourist destinations like Boracay and Lio, El Nido, Palawan; hospitals such as St. Luke’s Medical Center, The Medical City, Davao Doctors Hospital, Cardinal Santos Hospital, and Philippine General Hospital; local government units in Makati, Quezon City, Valenzuela, Las Piñas, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Caloocan, and Batangas; and some of the schools and universities like Far Eastern University and Bulacan State University.

A Night of Fine Dining with the Bacolod Academy for Culinary Arts
    Posted in: Events, Services

If you still don’t believe that food in my city is legit, maybe this will convince you even more. Bacolod is home to BACA (Bacolod Academy for Culinary Arts) which is founded and directed by Gunther Sanin, an Austrian who had his humble start in a remote area in Dumaguete city.

The BACA (Bacolod Academy for Culinary Arts) Edge

It’s not clear as to when the center in Bacolod City was first started, but what’s crystal is that the Bacolod Academy for Culinary Arts is the only school in the Negros Island that has a majority of foreign instructors. BACA’s programs have been designed to prepare its students for international hospitality setting. Patterned from Germany’s Dual Education system, students will have the chance to go through intensive hands-on training, experience what’s happening from the front and from behind the scenes, and learn about the international culinary industry.

BACA Gala Dinner by Graduates of 2017

Last May, I was invited to a dining experience created by the Bacolod Academy for Culinary Arts’ 2017 graduates. They created a full-course dinner which was paired with Moncigale Côtes Du Rhône Eclat Du Rhône 2009. Below are photos I took of the different dishes the BACA graduates served.

    Fine Dining Experience

In Bacolod, we have plenty of fancy restaurants you can visit, but most of the restaurants here don’t serve dishes in small portions, arranged like gastronomic art, so this night was definitely a treat for me. The servers were on-point, making sure that my goblet was always filled with water and empty dishes were cleaned up. I loved that the servers explained what the dishes were because it added a bit of panache to my dining experience.

How Can You Enroll with BACA?

If you’re interested, BACA is accepting new enrollees. Their Professional Culinary Arts Course will start on June 19, 2017. To better learn about BACA’s programs, you can visit their Facebook Page here. They constantly post different updates for their programs. As I said, the latest one is on June 19, 2017 – more details here.

It’s also helpful to visit BACA’s official website here. I recommend that you read the following within the website:

    Contact Details

To contact BACA and inquire about fees, you can go through the website, Facebook or this number: (+63) 0917 7761 999. You can also visit them at 12th Lacson Street, Mayfair Place, Bacolod, 6100 Negros Occidental, Philippines. Their office (and center) is at the same spot as Tyrol Restaurant.

     Congratulations Graduates

I would like to personally thank the BACA graduates of 2017 for preparing a fabulous dinner! You guys are one step closer to your dream and with what I tasted during the dinner, you guys are going to go a long way. Congrats to:

Smart 1 Gigabit Wifi Speed at the Bacolod-Silay Airport
    Posted in: Services, Trending

What’s the most annoying thing in the world for an avid internet user? Yes, you guessed it: slower-than-a-turtle internet connection. For people in Bacolod City, we’ve muttered our fair share of internet speed complaints. While we wait for internet speed remedies to fall from the heavens, thank goodness we don’t have to suffer the same kind of misery when we’re at the Bacolod-Silay Airport.

Newly Installed Smart Wifi 1 Gbit/s Speed at the Airport

Smart Communications recently installed internet capabilities through Smart Wifi to our Bacolod-Silay Airport. It’s not your ordinary 100mbps speed too because the generous people from Smart and PLDT thought that it would be better to have 1 GIGABIT of internet speed all over the airport. Yes, friend, you read that right: 1 GIGABIT which is insanely fast by Pinoy standards.

Silay City Mayor Mark Golez Giving his Opening Speech

Silay City Mayor: Mark Golez, giving his opening remarks

    Smart Wifi FAQ

During the press conference, execs from Smart, together with an engineer, answered everything we needed to know about the new Smart wifi connection.

Smart Wifi at the Airport is FREE

What’s NOT allowed in terms of usage?

Torrent and porn sites are NOT allowed for obvious reasons. The rest of the sites, from social networks to movie streaming sites, are restriction-free.

How fast is Smart Wifi? Or How fast is 1Gigabit?

To find out, I turned to my best friend of the day, Shane aka Shiobe, to ask for her opinion on how fast the internet really is. Here’s what she had to say during our short Facebook live session:

The video was uploaded to or streamed on Facebook with no lags nor waiting time. Fenina Gorres, VP and Head of Enterprise Customer Operations, also mentioned that you need not wait for a movie or video to buff.

What’s the maximum number of users the wifi can sustain?

The engineer answered: 3000 users that are simultaneously accessing the wifi, with a minimum speed of 30-40mbps. The user’s experience and speed, however, will be dependent on what type of phone the user has.

How far can the wifi reach?

It can reach 30 meters from the access point. Think of the access point as the modem. There are several strategically placed in specific spots within the airport to give everyone good access to the wifi. So even though you’re sitting on the john or waiting at the parking lot, you’ll be able to have a decent wifi signal.

Ina Pineda, head of Smart Wi-Fi Communications and Fenina Gorres, VP and Head of Enterprise Customer Operations

L-R: Ina Pineda, head of Smart Wi-Fi Communications and Fenina Gorres, VP and Head of Enterprise Customer Operations

Smart and PLDT’s wifi plans don’t just stop at the Bacolod-Silay Airport (see the full press release here). Smart Wifi is going to be installed in other major transportation hubs nationwide. The next phase, according to the execs, will be public spots all over the Philippines. I cannot wait for this to happen! For the meantime, travelers to and from the City of Smiles, Talisay and Silay can enjoy Smart and PLDT’s generous gift while passing through the airport.

SALON and SPA: Adesso Spa NGC
    Posted in: Services

After a long day at work or even after a long week, sometimes, all you need to fix your melancholy mood and physical malaise is a trip to the spa. However, from my personal experience, it’s difficult to find a spa that:

    • Is accessible to me since I live in the Upper East area of the city (Near Sta. Fe #medyobukid).
    • I feel comfortable at (i.e. clean, smells nice, feels nice).
    • Has a masseuses who I like (i.e. gives great massages, massages do not hurt, listens to me).
    • Will heed my need for rest and relaxation (i.e. has vacancies when I need it to have vacancies).

Yes, there are spas sprinkled all over the East area, but most of the time, they do not meet my 2nd, 3rd and 4th criteria.

Adesso Spa NGC Bacolod is Now Open

Thankfully, Adesso Spa NGC opened up a couple of months ago. I and a few of my blogger friends were invited to sample their services.

Disclaimer: Although I was invited to sample the services, any opinions I state on this post, about the spa, has not, in anyway, been influenced.

    LocationAdesso Spa NGC - Location

Adesso Spa NGC is located at the second level of Hi-Strip 5, right above 7-11. The spa’s sign can easily be seen from the parking lot. To get there, all you have to do is find the stairs (which should be next to Nonna’s Extension), and then go up.

    Adesso Spa NGC Interior

    Adesso Spa NGC - Lobby

Adesso Spa NGC Reception and Waiting Area

The  first thing you’re going to see when you walk in is the reception and waiting area. Clients can sit here or ask for services that are available at the counter that’s opposite the area you see on the picture.

    Adesso Spa NGC - Seating

The next area is where nails are done. Thankfully, Adesso Spa NGC also has nail services aside from the usual spa massages and facials. The place is dim so what they do is use lights whenever a client opts for manicure, pedicure or footspa.

    SPARTY Packages

The setup is actually done this way (with plenty of chairs in different areas) because Adesso Spa NGC caters to intimate spa parties or sparties.

Spa Party Details You May Want to Know About

    • The spa can seat a maximum of 8-10 persons for the sparty.
    • You get to choose the services you want. There are packaged services on Adesso Spa’s service menu.

Adesso Spa NGC - Massage Tables

Of course, the spa has massage beds that are inside private cubicles. There’s a single massage bed and a double massage bed (for couples).

Adesso Spa NGC - Eyelash Area

The spa also has an area where facials and eyelash extensions are done. I actually tried the eyelash extension service so watch out for my review.

Adesso Spa NGC - Products Dais Secret

Everyone might also want to know that the spa uses their own products to do facials. The beauty line is called Dai’s Secret which was developed by the owner, Grace Dualo, with the help of a licensed beauty product manufacturer in Manila. I’m trying out Dai’s Secret currently and I am loving the collagen cream which is similar to a BB cream in consistency and coverage.

    Adesso Spa NGC Promos

Upon talking to the owner, who was very nice and accommodating, she already has another branch in Silay. It’s also similar to this one, but I think that there’s a full service salon that clients can visit.

Adesso Spa NGC - Services 2 Promos

Since the NGC branch just opened, Adesso Spa is currently having promos for each day of the week:

Most people don’t really get facials because: A. They don’t see the point in it, and, B. They’re not really keen on getting professional skin solutions for their derma-problems. My opinion was both A and B a couple of years back. I figured that I could simply just wash my face and exfoliate. That worked for a while but it wasn’t until I hit around 27 or 28 that I felt the need for having consistent visits to a skincare clinic for facials.

    Why do I get facials?

    • Why do you have your teeth cleaned with a dentist when you can just brush them? It’s the same logic, right? I do it because just washing my face is not enough anymore (now that my hormones are shifting).
    • I get to see a doctor who’ll give me professional advice when I need some.
    • There are facial treatments that you simply cannot DIY.
    • Facials are relaxing and calming.
    • Getting regular facials is like putting a period on a sentence. It completes my regular skincare routine.

I haven’t been on top of my skincare routine for a while which is why I was ecstatic when Dr. Serondo invited me and fellow blogger Claire of Firsttimetravels.com, to try out her services.

    Skin Solutions Clinic Location

Skin Solutions By Serondo Skin and Surgical Clinic - 10

You’ll see Skin Solutions right beside Palawan Pawnshop

Let’s talk about the location, first. It’s not that hard to find because it is at the ground level, outside area of the Cyber Center. Just ask where Palawan Pawnshop is.

    Inside the Skin Solutions Clinic

The clinic is definitely clean. Husbands and boyfriends who need to wait for their ladies can enjoy a quiet and peaceful wait at this area. Magazines are available if you get bored.

    First-Time Assessment

Skin Solutions By Serondo Skin and Surgical Clinic - 3

The first step for us was to fill out this form. This basically told Dr. Serondo what our skin needs are and what our skin’s history is. The clinic having to assess first-timers was definitely a sign that it was catering to clients that wanted skin solutions for aesthetic and medical purposes.

Skin Solutions By Serondo Skin and Surgical Clinic - 4

Dr. Serondo explaining the basics of a specific procedure.

Next, Dr. Serondo reviewed our forms and briefly talked to us about the procedures she thinks would fit us best. She also explained what BB cream was originally designed for.

Skin Solutions By Serondo Skin and Surgical Clinic - 9

This BB cream is pricey but it’s what Skin Solutions uses on their clients to calm their skin down and give it protection from the sun. This is available for sale at Skin Solutions.

    Did you know?

Did you know the BB creams were primarily used in derma clinics? Doctors used it post facials or treatments to calm the clients skin down and give it protection from the sun. The cosmetics industry, later on, stepped in. One thing you need to know, however, is that most BB creams in derma-clinics are different from the cosmetic BB creams you’ll find in department stores.

    Facials/Treatments I Tried

Disclaimer: The treatments I received were free of charge, but that has not altered my opinion in any way.

Crystal Power Peel – Highly Recommended

Skin Solutions By Serondo Skin and Surgical Clinic - 7

This facial is best for scars, spots, and dark patches on the skin, uneven skin tone, and early signs of skin aging. What this facial does is shoot crystals out of a tube to exfoliate the skin. The crystals are then sucked back into the machine. This is microdermabrasion at its finest and whatever exfoliator you’re using has got nothing on this facial. They then applied an after treatment mask on me and then BB cream.

    • My skin felt like a baby’s bottom after the treatment.
    • Was it painful? To me, not really. I almost fell asleep during the treatment.
    • They gave me a massage as they waited for the mask to dry. It was wonderful.

Hydra-Jet Facial – Highly Recommended for Aged Skin

I don’t have a photo of this. The hydra-jet is just what the name suggests. Pressured water is applied to your skin to exfoliate and renew it. The water felt really nice on the skin as it was hot during that day. In general, the water jet is great for aged skin as it is more delicate and might not stand the intensity of the power peel. Dr. Serondo also said that if her clients couldn’t stand the power peel, she switched to the hydra-jet.

    Underarm Hair Removal IPL

I don’t have a picture of this too (for obvious reasons). The underarm hair removal is just like any IPL hair removal treatment. IPL stands for Intense Pulsated Light. A device is basically used to deliver light to small areas on the skin to remove hairs. You’ll feel the heat when the laser gun is fired but, generally, it shouldn’t hurt. The clinic has different rates for different body parts. They do have a one year unlimited IPL treatment deal for the underarms for P11,520.

Skin Solutions By Serondo Skin and Surgical Clinic - 8

    • I love that they give you a massage during breaks.
    • I love that the clinic is clean.
    • The products that they’re using are top notch (the BB cream is bomb).
    • The procedures are done professionally.
    • Dr. Serondo is always at the clinic to oversee the procedures. She’s open to questions and suggestions and is very friendly and approachable.

  • Learning Camera Basics with JR Seva Burgos
    Posted in: Services

This year, because of my blog, I found it necessary to buy better equipment for photo taking. So, I bought a pre-loved DSLR camera (Fujifilm hs20 exr). The problem was, I was mostly using it in Auto setting because I didn’t know how to tinker with the manual settings to control how the picture comes out. It was then that I expressed my plight on social media (like any good netizen would do) which birthed a collaborative photo class to learn camera basics with Uba Laba Ilonggowear, Ms Erl of #MEMO and, teacher, JR Seva Burgos. Here are a couple of lessons I learned:

Lesson #1: Learn how to navigate through your camera.

Photo Class with JR Seva - 2

    Test Shot – 1

Before learning anything, you have to know where everything is. This also means that you have to know how to adjust a setting. I say this because on my camera, you have to push a certain button first to choose a setting to adjust. You have to hold the button down, in some cases, before you move the knob.

Lesson #2: Know what each setting does.

There are different settings that you can find on your camera. Mine has pre-settings which do most of the work and a manual mode. Before I attended the camera basics class, I went ahead and read the online manual of my camera so I know what each settings does. This made it easier for me to understand how the manual mode works because I read on the meanings of technical terms I came across.

Test Shot - 2 (I know it's dulom, but practice makes perfect)

Test Shot – 2, I know it’s dulom, but practice makes perfect.

Lesson #3: The settings under the manual mode is like the circle of life.

If you watch Disney movies a lot, you’ll know exactly which movie “the circle of life” is in. I say this because the different settings – ISO, aperture, shutter speed – are all connected. If you adjust one setting below it’s standard level, you’ll get a totally different picture. So, you have to know how to make those small adjustments.

Photo Class with JR Seva - 3

Test Shot – 3, I was probably trying to try out the blur effect JR was talking about.

Here’s a great video to learn how the manual settings relate to each other: Video by Tony Northtrup. If you follow the series, it’ll also be like taking a camera basics class so it’s really a good idea to check out the video.

Lesson #4: The lens is the key to getting that blurry, dramatic effect.

Photo Class by JR Seva - 6

I love how JR takes his photos so I asked how in the world he does the “blurring the background” effect with the subject sharply defined. He told me that it was because of the lens he was using. You can get creative with the variety of lenses out in the market.

    Lesson #5: Don’t forget the flash.Photo Class with JR Seva - 4

The flash, sometimes, also plays an important in making pictures sharp. What I found out with my camera is I could actually adjust the amount of flash my camera gives off. I’m sure other cameras can do this too.

Lesson #6: Last, but not the least is your eye for beauty.

camera basics with JR Seva Burgos

JR says that how you look at things and what you see as beautiful can’t be taught. He showed a diagram during class with ISO, shutter speed and aperture. The last element of which is (I forgot the term he used) your eye for beauty which is different with every photographer.

I can say that my photos are slowly improving. I think I still have a lot of things to learn and experience, but at least the photos on my blog don’t suck as much anymore because of this camera basics class.

    • Thank you to JR Seva Burgos for teaching the class! You can actually hire him as a photographer. His rate is very competitive, just so you know. You may contact him here.
    • Another Thank you to Ms Erl of #Memo for fixing up the class for me. She’s a makeup artist and a stylist. See her works of beauty here.
    • And, lastly, to Sir Frank of Uba Laba Ilonggowear. Thank you for letting me join and for driving us to CRIB right after the class. Check out Uba Laba’s Ilonggowear designs (find them on FB here):

  • How to Choose a Bacolod Real Estate Company
    Posted in: Services

It’s not everyday that you buy a house, sell a house, get a property appraised or seek counsel on real estate matters. When the time comes that you need to, however, you need a Bacolod Real Estate company that can take care of everything. The problem is, with all the real estate companies that are in the city, how do you choose one that will address your needs and give you the best service possible? Here’s how:

    Look for the Basics

The basics would have to include:

    • Company Licenses – they definitely have to be legit.
    • Realtors’ Licenses – the people that represent the company have to be legit as well.

You can search for more credentials such as awards, accomplishments and reviews. Most of these you will find on the company’s website. If not, you might have to do a little digging on the internet: use Google and type in the name of the Bacolod Real Estate Company.  You should get a lot of information about the company this way.

    Talk to the Realtor(s)

The realtors basically represent the company. If they don’t put their best foot forward, potential clients might turn into harsh critics, especially with today’s trend of ranting on social media.

Talk to the realtors from the company and see what they’re like. Did they answer your question thoroughly? Did they explain their answers in a way that’s easy for you to understand? Did they set realistic expectations at what they can do for you? Did they do everything in a professional manner? If your answer is yes to all of these, then it’s highly likely that you are in good hands.

    Check Past Transactions and Clients

So what does past transactions and clients have to do with choosing a Bacolod Real Estate company?

One, if a real estate company has sold a good number of houses over the past year, it indicates that they may be applying the right marketing strategies to get a house sold. It, therefor, means they understand the local market and how it is behaving.

Two, past clients are great feedback givers. If they had a good experience with the real estate company, I’m sure that they’ll be glad to tell you so. The same goes when former clients have a bad experience. But, how do you hunt down former clients? You ask Google or you refer to the company’s website.

  • PAL: Non-Stop Flights from CEBU to LOSANGELES
    Posted in: Services

    Happy 75th PAL

The Philippine Airlines is celebrating its 75th anniversary with a NEW PROMO: non-stop flights from Cebu to LosAngeles. According to PAL representatives during a press conference, passengers of these flights will be carried by AirBus 340.

    PAL Representatives

This is great news because the non-stop flights will make it easier for people in Visayas and Mindanao to go to LA and vice versa. Since both Visayas and Mindanao hold some of the most beautiful spots in the Philippines, I’m hoping that this will bring in more tourists coming from LA or through LA. Filipino Families from LA who are looking to go home can also do so with convenience.

Whatever the case, this is great news because, currently, Philippine Airlines is the ONLY airline with this kind of flight.

Non-Stop Flights from CEBU to LOSANGELES Details

    • It’ll take a good amount of time before a passenger arrives to his or her destination. This is why the flight times were designed for passengers to sleep most of the trip off. For example, if you’re flight from CEB to LA is at 6:25pm, you’ll be arriving in LA the next day at around 6:00pm.
    • Flights days: TUES, THURS and SAT
    • All-in Economy Class Roundtrip Fare starting from $758.00
    • Travel period: March 15 to 25, 2016 and September 01 to December 15, 2016
    • Selling period: January 29, 2016 to March 15, 2016 (subject to seat availability)

    Nice to know facts:

    • Rates will still be competitively priced after the PROMO ends.
    • CEB-LA mileage will be higher.

Don’t forget to BOOK your TICKETS earlier and SHARE this with loved ones that have been wanting to come home to Visayas or Mindanao.

  • Sun Life Prosperity Card: Gifting an Investment
    Posted in: Services

Sun Life Asset Management Company, Inc. (SLAMCI) has now made it possible for Filipinos (not just Bacolodnons) to give their loved ones the gift of investment through the Sun Life Prosperity Card. I know that it’s not the most exciting gift to give but it’s one of the smartest.

Sun Life is a Company that's been around fro over 100 years. It's safe to say that they're the real deal.

Sun Life is a company that’s been around for over 100 years. It’s safe to say that they’re the real deal.

Over the years, we’ve given so many gifts to the people we love during certain occasions – Chinese New Year, Christmas, Birthdays, Weddings and so on. If we gave them the gift of investment, this gift could have grown to who knows how much. It’s like giving a fisherman a fishing rod and teaching him how to fish instead of just giving him something to eat for the day – it’s beneficial for the person you’re giving the gift to, in the long run.

Each card has P5000.00 to be invested in any peso-denominated mutual fund managed by SLAMCI under its Sun Life Prosperity Funds. It’s like a starter investment fund for investment beginners. The person you’re giving this gift to would have to visit a Sun Life Office to activate the card and then choose the Prosperity Fund he or she wants to put the money in. It’s a very straight forward process.

Where and How to Buy a Sun Life Prosperity Card

To purchase a Sun Life Prosperity Card, you can:

You’ll need to fill up and submit different forms. Upon purchase of the card, you’ll need: a completed purchase form and one valid ID. When activating the card, you’ll need: an investor information form, investor profile questionnaire, order ticket, one billing statement and one valid ID.

To know more details about each fund, it’s best to talk to a Sun Life advisor who can expertly match your interest and long-term plans with the right mutual fund.

When should you give this gift?

The Sun Life Prosperity card is a gift for all occasions – baptisms, birthdays, weddings and the like. You can even buy it for yourself if you want to start investing! You can buy as many as 20 cards, there’s not limit.

Why should you give this gift?

    • You’re encouraging the idea of investment with the Sun Life Prosperity Card. Since people don’t really know much about investing (and why it’s important), you’re enlightening them and opening their perspective on how to grow money. You’re also demonstrating that investing money is not at all an intimidating and complicated process.
    • You’re giving a good name to the right way of investing money. Lately, the Philippines has caught a trend of investing money into  (I honestly don’t know what to call it) schemes that tell the people something like: invest P5000.00 to get P30,000 in X days (some work, but some do not). SLAMCI has also noticed this which is why they have an on going campaign called SLAM the SCAM with Matteo Guidecelli.Slam the Scam Campaign with Matteo Guidecelli

Konsulta MD: the Answer to Long Queues at Doc’s Clinic?
    Posted in: Services

The first time I heard of a medical hotline (or, more appropriately a medical app) was when I was watching reruns of Dr. Phil. I can’t remember who exactly developed the app but what it let you do is get in touch with a doctor, lickety-split, on your smartphone. It even had a video and everything. What I do remember, though, is me saying to myself, “Why don’t we have this in the Philippines?” Someone must have heard me because Konsulta MD was introduced to the Negros Bloggers about a week ago.

    Information on Konsulta MD

It’s not an app but a hotline. It is a telehealth service where subscribers can call a hotline at anytime of the day to speak to a doctor for medical advice. The key phrase here is: ANYTIME OF THE DAY. This means that you can call at 3am without feeling guilty because you disrupted a doctor’s precious sleep. The service is a joint venture between Globe and Salud Interactiva (a leader in the health hotline space in Mexico).

    Subscribing to Konsulta MD

Subscribing to Consulta MD - Details - Mea in Bacolod

With Konsulta MD, there are three plans to subscribe to: postpaid, prepaid and platinum.

You’ll have to pay P150/month. You’ll be charged P1/minute when you call, but the upside is that you can enroll other members in your household. This plan is good for four people (including you). You’d have to have a postpaid plan with Globe, as the name suggests. Payment is easy since your monthly fee will be charged on top of your postpaid fee.

You can either pay per week (P15/week) or per month (P60/month) [Php120 every 2 months or Php180 per quarter]. You’ll still be charged P1/minute when you call, but this time, this kind of subscription is only for one person – either yourself or a family member. The name of the plan is prepaid and, as you may have guessed, the charges will be deducted against your load. One important thing to remember is this: when you subscribe to this plan, you’re also agreeing to automatically renewed and charged.

    Platinum Elite

With this kind of plan, weekly or monthly charges are waved. You’re still, however, going to be charged P1/minute when you call. This plan is good for one person only, same as the prepaid. You’ll be required to fill in your billing address so the company can send you your bill every month.

You are required to register to the service before you use it. Names of members you wish to carry under your account should also be registered.

You are required to register to the service before you use it. Names of members you wish to carry under your account should also be registered.

Important Details to Remember BEFORE Subscribing to Konsulta MD

    • As you may have noticed, the service encourages you to be a Globe post and prepaid customer or a Touch Mobile user. It is, however, not exclusive to Globe or TM users only.
    • Account holders’ names will need to be registered. This basically means that not everyone can call the hotline. If you’re not the account holder (exceptions apply), then you cannot call for a consultation.
    • Children below 18 years old can have their parents call for them. In emergency cases, other people can call for the account holder. They just have to give the name of the account holder to continue.
    • Only available in Metro Manila: you may be in need of immediate medical attention when you call. In this case, Konsulta MD has a Lifeline Partnership (ambulance and paramedics) to send to your direction.Konsulta MD has a Lifeline Partnership (for NCR Only)
    • Calls using Globe or TM are charged P1 per minute while calls within Metro Manila via landline are currently FREE.
    • Non-Globe users have to pay the standard NDD rate for calls outside Metro Manila or regular mobile to landline rate, whichever is applicable.

Who will you be talking to?

    Konsulta MD Doctors

Good question. The great thing about this service is that you’ll be talking to licensed Doctors – not nurses or other medical professionals and not call center agents. There are doctors with specialties (i.e. Pedia, OB and so on) but the main focus is on general medicine. These doctors will be doing medical assessments, establishing basic healthcare and suggesting permissible medication over the phone.

Why is it a good idea to SUBSCRIBE to any of Konsulta MD’s plans?

    1. Use it when you’re TRAVELLING – You don’t have to worry about who to ask when you’re travelling and your doctor is not available over the phone.
    2. No MORE QUEUES and WAITING – I don’t know how it is in other parts of the Philippines, but in Bacolod you’d have to get listed, wait for tito or tita Doc for X hours and then wait some more until your turn comes up.
    3. No more GUILT – Guilt from what? Like what was mentioned earlier, guilt from calling your doctor at 3am because your son or daughter is sick. Mga mommies, this is definitely for you. Also, for people who have aged parents or siblings with disabilities, this is for you too.
    4. Affordable rates – You have to admit that for this kind of service and for the benefits it brings, the rates are affordable and even flexible.
    5. Small questions are OK – Do you ever have a medical question you’re too shy to ask your doctor about because it’s something small and unrelated? I have tons. Now, I can just call the hotline!

YES. You got it right. I subscribed and I am planning to have my mother, father, sister (her family) and my husband subscribe as well. Tamang-tama because I’m going to go on a diet and I have a lot of nutrition, safety and exercise questions to ask.

  • Quino’s: New Hot Dogs and a FREE Card
Posted in: Services, Where and What to Eat

I have always wanted to taste some of Quino’s hot dogs and finally, one Sunday afternoon at the District North Point, I and my family visited the cafe to snack on some.

     The Cafe at Ayala

Quinos - Hotdogs and Discount Card - Mea in Bacolod - P3

First off, I have always liked hanging out at Quino’s when we are at The District North, otherwise known as Ayala, because they have a kid’s section. When you have children that can be left alone to play, you can just sit peacefully, enjoying your meal while your children sit in this corner of the cafe. The great thing is that the tables are not too close together to hinder you from seeing what your children are doing while playing at the corner.

Small kids love to visit Quino's Ayala.

Mommies will also be glad to know that the corner isn’t just for big kids. It’s also for little kids who cannot keep their hands to themselves. Soft toys are available at the corner for everyone to borrow.

    Afternoon Snacks

    The famous puffyani from Quinos.

These are Puffyanis. One can’t really say that they’ve experienced Quino’s when they haven’t tasted the puffyani yet. It is Quino’s signature pastry. It’s the cafe’s own version of a cream puff – a MUST TRY.

    My son loves Quino's puffyani!

My son just loves these! We ordered two plates of threes and he probably ate 4. He almost didn’t leave any for the rest.

Did you know that Quino's has french fries?

We brought the kids along so they had to have fries. Fries being available on the menu tells me that the cafe is diversifying its menu which is a great thing. Quino’s is not just focused on pastries and coffees. Recently, the Chicken Finger Rive Meal became available at the Mandalagan and Ayala branch.

    The Dogs and New Sandwiches

    NEW – the Breakfast Hungarian

Two new sandwiches were introduced to the menu. We got to have both that Sunday afternoon we visited. My sister had both the sandwiches, though not at the same time. She loves the Breakfast Hungarian so much.

Quinos - Hotdogs and Discount Card - Mea in Bacolod - P6

NEW – the Chicken Fillet Sandwich

I have yet to hear what she thought about the chicken fillet (because she had this to go) but the sandwich looks so yummy from the photo. I will update the article once I get a reply from her (promise).

    Sprinkled with love and Bacon.

Husband had this. What man doesn’t love a hot dog with cheesy sauce, sprinkled with bacon? A non-existent man, that’s what. He recommends that the lot of you order this on your next visit.

Quinos - Hotdogs and Discount Card - Mea in Bacolod - P8

I had me some Seattles Hot Dog. This dog has cream cheese and caramelized onions. I love anything with caramelized onions on it. • Common Wealth Insurance Bacolod: Personal Accident Insurance and Other Products
    Posted in: Services

The concept of insurance was foreign to me until I reached the age of 26 or 27. I am now 28 and it’s safe to say that I fully grasp how important it is to have one for yourself, for your business, for your car, for your house and, of course, for the rest of your family.

    12059870_10207081761018308_1462424399_o12082738_10207081762138336_37015016_o DSCN5375

Common Wealth Insurance, located at room 212 2nd level VSB building, 6th street  recently invited me as well as other bloggers in the city to witness the blessing and showcasing of their new tow-truck. Weeks later, I went back to check out the services they offer:

    • Heirs Bond
    • Surety Bond
    • Fidelity Bond
    • Bidders Bond
    • Performance Bond
    • Real Estate Brokers Bond

    Motor Car

    • Private Car
    • Motorcycle
    • Motor Trade
    • Commercial Vehicle

    • Erection All Risks
    • Contractors’ All Risks
    • Electronic Equipment
    • Deterioration of Stock
    • Machinery Breakdown
    • Boiler and Pressure Vessel

    • Inland Marine
    • Marine Cargo

    Personal Accident

    • Standard Personal Accident
    • Executive Personal Accident
    • Group Student Accident
    • Family Accident
    • Travel Personal Accident

    And so on…

I had my eye on the personal accident insurance because you never really know what cards you’re going to be dealt with. I started to ask Ms. Mich Suplico, the branch manager, common questions that people who know little about Common Wealth Insurance, and insurance, in general, might ask (I am paraphrasing, by the way):

Q: How much does a personal accident insurance cost? And how much will you get, if something happened?

It depends on the type of insurance you’d want to get as well as the occupational class the applicant is under. Common Wealth Insurance has options that will cost you around P200+ to P1000+ per year. From what I got out of it, you don’t have any ROI or return on investment but if something were to happen, you’d get around P50,000 with a medical reimbursement of P5,000-P10,000.

Q: What kind of documentation will be needed to get the medical reimbursement?

Everything from the hospital: admitting sheets, medicine receipts and the like.

Q: Please tell me a little more about how you classify occupations.

    • Class 1 – this is for non-hazardous work. People who work as office personnel or executives fall under this classification. This is probably where I belong.
    • Class 2 – this class is for people who do limited manual labor without any use of machinery.
    • Class 3 – this is for skilled or semi-skilled industrial workers using light machinery.
    • Class 4 – the last class is for industrial workers using heavy machinery.

Q: How old do you need to be in order to be covered by a personal accident insurance?

You need to be 16-60 years old.

Q: Can you give me a brief description of disablement?

If you lose two of your limbs, you get 100% of the total amount covered. If you lose both of your feet, you also get 100%. Let’s say you lost an index finger, you’re going to get 10% of the total amount covered. If you lose your sight in one eye, that’s 50%. The list is comprehensive.

    Nifty to Know

Knowing these things might just save you from a whole bunch of hurt, financially, when an unfortunate event happens. The way I see it, you don’t get any returns, but at least you’re prepared for surprises. You’ll thank yourself  the future and I’m sure that you’re family will as well.

  • A Few More Things You Didn’t Know You Could do at SM City Bacolod
    Posted in: Services
Hubs: Maanu ka sa SM? (What are you going to do at SM?)
Me: Ma grocery, ma bayad SSS and Philhealth kag mamahaw. (Buy groceries, pay my SSS and Philhealth and then eat.) 🙂

About a week ago, I posted about 8 things most people don’t know about SMX Bacolod but I felt like there are more SM services that we didn’t know even existed so I made another list. Personally, SM City Bacolod is not just a mall for me because, aside from doing the usual mall activities – shop, walk around, eat, play arcade, shop some more – I can do other things like pay bills or hang out at the lounge.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about with the bills and the lounge then you definitely need to check this list out. Here are other things you can do at SM City Bacolod:

    1. You can sign up for the Gift Registry

    SM Gift Registry (1)

My sister always signs up for the gift registry every time she has a party. I didn’t really understand the concept at first because gift registries are not very common in Bacolod City. It wasn’t until the Bloggers and Media Meet last Sept 16, 2015, that I was able to wrap my head around what the registry really is. It’s basically you telling your guests what you want as gifts. You get a wishlist that guests can see. Pictures of the items you want will be provided by SM City Bacolod (viewed on the gift registry website). Plus, you get the following advantages:

    • You get special discounts – 10% for guests buying from your wish list and 10% for you when buying regular priced items
    • You also get extra SMAC points (who doesn’t love extra SMAC points?)
    • FREE Gift Wrapping – there will always be special wrapping for your gifts with no minimum purchase

    SM Gift Registry (2)

    • FREE Gift Delivery – your guests can just tell SM Bacolod to deliver the gifts to your house (even if your guests only got one present for you)

For more information on the SM Gift Registry, click here.

    2. Make use of SM Customer Services

Pay Bills – SM City Bacolod has Business Center Operations (BCO)

    • SM Bacolod’s BCO bills payment currently accepts bills from over 200 biller partners.
    • Credit card payments are accepted here
    • Cable TV payments accepted
    • Telecommunication bills also accepted
    • Utilities like CENECO, BACIWA and NONECO can be paid at SM CIty Bacolod
    • School payments are accepted as well (UNO-R and USLS)

    Do Government Transactions

    • NSO (Birth cert, Marriage cert, Death cert, CENOMAR)
    • Pag-ibig contributions can be paid here (Voluntary/ Loans)
    • SSS (Voluntary)
    • Phil Health (Voluntary)
    • PRC Renewal – If I had known this earlier, I wouldn’t have renewed my Nursing License years ago.
    • Ombudsman Certificate

    3. Take advantage of your SM Advantage Card

    • Get treats and discounts from partner establishments. Click here for a full list of partners.
    • Hang out at the lounge (for Prestige Card holders).

    SM City Bacolod Prestige Lounge

See what I meant when I said that SM City Bacolod is not just a mall? I’ve been doing my bills payment at SM for quite some time now and I don’t think that I’m ever going back to paying bills directly. The lounge is a pretty relaxing place to be and you get free coffee. The only thing to do now is to try the gift registry. How about you? Do you also pay your bills at SM?

  • 8 Things You Didn’t Know About the SMX Convention Center Bacolod
    Posted in: Services

Since it’s opening, SMX has been sort of a mystery to most Bacolodnons, myself included. I had the misconception of labeling SM’s expanded area as the SMX but nope, it’s different as what Mr. JB Ongsinco (SMX Bacolod Manager) shared last Sept 16, 2015 at the Bloggers and Media Meet (SMX Meeting Room 1 and 2).

    Meeting Rooms SMX Bacolod

I realized that I didn’t know much about the SMX Convention Center aside from the fact that they offer their spaces for events and occasions. There’s actually more to what the SMX can do, surprisingly.

Now it’s your turn, let’s test what you know. How many of the “fun facts” below do you already know about the SMX Convention Center Bacolod?

    • As I mentioned earlier, SMX is NOT the expanded area of SM.The doors of the SMX can be located at the third floor of the SM City Bacolod. You cannot miss it. This is the real SMX Convention Center Bacolod.

    • SMX doesn’t stand for SM X-pansion. The X is actually for a lot of things such as X-cellence, X-tra huge spaces and all the other positive X-adjectives out there that truly describe the SM brand.
    • There are 3 big function rooms and 6 small meeting rooms at the SMX. The 3 big function rooms can be combined to make one that’s loads bigger.
    • The lobby area at SMX Bacolod can be used for registration and an extension space for exhibits.
    • SMX Bacolod has a car lift big enough to accommodate a Hummer.
    • Weddings and birthdays can be held at SMX  Bacolod (who knew?).

    (source: smxconventioncenter.com)

    • Other possible uses for the SMX space are: concerts, board meetings, banquets, and classroom discussions and pageants. It’s not just limited to these either.
    • SMX Convention Center Bacolod currently has 4 accredited caterers: L’fisher, Casa Noble, Business Inn and Imay’s. More will definitely be added to the list soon.

There are loads more that I didn’t include in this post, but the bottom line is this: thanks to the SMX Convention Center, Bacolod has now increased its potential to do more and be more.
